  1. Simeon Says:

The text under the picture is in literary Bulgarian. The alphabet is the official Bulgarian alphabet used until the orthographic reform in 1945, when 2 letters were removed to get the current Bulgarian alphabet.

The text is translated quite well. However, there is a small detail at the end of the sentence that has been lost in the translation. Here is my translation:

“Born in 1874 in the village of Vlahi, Melnik district, after 20 years of tireless struggle for the liberation of the Macedonian slave, he fell dead on April 10, 1915 in the Pirin mountain at the place called “Baba”, alas, murdered by the evil hand of Bulgarians.”

The last part of the sentence expresses sadness of the fact that Sandanski was assassinated by Bulgarians, i.e. something quite common at the time – various parties of IMRO were often killing each other.

I see that you have quite the interest in my little blog Simeon, thank you for noticing the small misstake from my side in the translation of the text. ´
Yes the text could be interpeted in the way you claim, but as it always is with languages, words have multiple meanings.
Lets for the sake of it consult an online dictionary namely; http://www.thefreedictionary.com.

Here is their defenition of alas:

Do you notice the last part “APPREHENSION OF DANGER OR EVIL”, yes the Macedonians sensed a great danger or evil coming form the Bulgarians, thus ALAS is most likely used in that sense.

Thanks again for noticing my mistake.

    Makedonika
Why are you talking with Simeon
    He’s a BND agent…or BNM=Bulgarian National Movement, he’s a party member of Karakachanov..
He’ s here only to inform his bosses
He’ s paid for this…………he gets money for this……

    Ban him….

    @simeon
ask your self why “something quite common at the time – various parties of IMRO were often killing each other”…. the answer is simple because of intervention of bulgarian authorities, desperately sicking part of Macedonia, and most of Macedonian heroes were killed by their command

  5. Marija Says:

I don’t agree with the comment of Simeon. Jane Sandanski, he was macedonian killed from bulgarians. Read some history then leave your comments here. He was one of the leaders of YoungTurk Revolution against Ottoman Empire, in his speeches, he never mention bulgarians, but only his people and his homeland Macedonia. Like always, Bulgaria played politic of a traitor, against macedonians and turk intelligence at that time.

  7. Andrej, Delcevo, Macedonia Says:

Jane Sandanski is one of the greatest Macedonian fighters for freedom and member od VMRO. He was killed by Bulgarian government because of his cause that was – United Macedonia.
